Sgt. George Saves The Day
George is a witty seven-year-old from Palatine, IL who loves baseball and his pet cats and dogs. His favorite actor is Johnny Depp, and his favorite group is the Rolling Stones. George also likes to watch Scooby Doo and play Legos.
In March 2008, George was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, a cancer of the blood cells that normally fight infections. To cope with his condition, he is undergoing chemotherapy treatments, but he continues to maintain a good sense of humor throughout his struggles.
When George had the chance to dream BIG, he wished to be a cop for a day. Thanks to the efforts of the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Illinois, George's wish came true! With the help of the Buffalo Grove Police Department, George dressed up in a custom-made uniform and learned how to handcuff a suspect. Later, he put those skills to use when he helped to "solve" a jewelry robbery, save several hostages, and lock up the "bad guy."
When all was said and done, more than 50 volunteers from Buffalo Grove police and fire departments, regional SWAT team members, two K-9 units and a local business had all been involved in making George's day special.
The Village of Buffalo Grove even presented George with a special award for his good work. George felt very good about his accomplishments and continues to dream of solving real crimes in the future. This is a day that he'll never forget because it gave him the hope, strength, and joy he needs to continue his recovery.
